Dad was too young to serve in the 2nd World War so he did National Service in the RAF based in Cambridgeshire and then in Bordeaux. He learnt about radios and electronics.

After the RAF he went to work in the family Cycle shop on Egerton street.

Eventually he decided to fulfil another ambition to be a teacher, so he sold the shop and went to Chorley College of Education to do his teaching certificate which he passed with merit.

He went on to teach at St Mark's School CE School in Worsley from 1970 to 1993 when he retired.

He loved being a teacher and used to say how much he enjoyed going to work. He especially liked taking the children on PGL holidays and doing sports with them.
